In June, the Core team set up shop at Veterans Park on the beautiful Lake Michigan to join the Wisconsin Humane Society Pet Walk festivities. Hosted annually, the Wisconsin Humane Society Pet Walk is a charitable event where pet lovers and owners from across the state come to raise money for animals in need.
While most participants joined the fun through the walk/run event with their furry friends, the Core team put our creative talents to work, drawing pet doodles in real time in exchange for donations to the Wisconsin Humane Society. In total, we raised over $600 for the organization, helping support animals in need.
We asked our team members who attended the event — what was your favorite part of the 2024 Wisconsin Humane Society Pet Walk?
Engaging with other pet lovers
I loved seeing the enthusiasm that all of the walk participants had for their pets, other’s pets and helping the Wisconsin Humane Society save future pets. It's very cool to see a whole group of people that are in one place and all excited about the same thing. Dogs are the best and bring so much joy to those that have the pleasure of encountering them — the way our team captured their kind spirits in a doodle was heartwarming.

Bringing joy to fellow paw-rents
One of the highlights of the pet walk was engaging with fellow dog lovers and witnessing their faces light up as they talked about their pets. Even those who didn't have their dogs with them were so relatable, eagerly scrolling through countless photos on their phones to find the perfect one for a doodle. It’s wonderful seeing so many people all come together for such great cause!

Connecting with the pet care community
What’s better than being in a community of hardcore pet (mostly dog) lovers? The vibes were excellent and it felt great “doing good” as a team. I found it especially heartwarming and amusing seeing peoples’ reactions to their pet doodles — and then watching them show the doodles to their dogs. It was also fun talking with all of the business owners at their booths and seeing the cool things they have created and offered for pets. Insider tip: Many of the businesses were giving away sample bags of dog food, even whole bags of premium dog treats. My foster dog was a VERY happy boy when I got home. 10/10 will participate next year.

Art is powerful
Seeing reference photos of the “models” and deciding how best to capture their personality was a fun challenge. While people see their pets every day, a portrait that will last forever reminding them how special their pets are is priceless. I love getting to use my talent to bring joy to people’s lives, and fortunately, that is a very common experience at Core. I can’t wait for next year!
